OPEN STREETS EDINBURGH

Event Management Services

Big Squid worked closely with The City of Edinburgh Council in the establishment and delivery of the Open Streets Initiative.

Forming part of the Council’s City Centre Transformation Plan, funded and supported by the Places for Everyone programme which is managed by Sustrans, its aims were to tackle climate change and improve air quality through pedestrianisation and increased access for active travel. Edinburgh was the first city in the UK to join the movement, trialling the pedestrianisation of city central streets including the famous Royal Mile and stunning Victoria Street.

With responsibility for setting up and managing infrastructure, managing health and safety around road closures, facilitating community involvement and providing a talented team of staff, Big Squid helped make Open Streets as successful as its global counterparts.

'Thanks for all you have done to develop, promote, support and deliver Open Streets. You should be very proud of what you have achieved.'
Ian Buchanan// City Centre Programme// City of Edinburgh Council
