FULL NELSON FILMS
BFI & SCREEN SCOTLAND FUNDED TEASER
Creative Production Design
Big Squid was able to support Alice in the creation of a teaser during the early development phase of her first feature documentary, The Undermine. Tracy’s role involved both set and prop making as well as providing hands-on production support on shoots.
The creative process included building intricate, miniature paper sets and characters staged within 3D environments. All movement was to be filmed entirely in-camera. Tracy was also able to bring computer animation skills, creating realistic weather effects using After Effects, and seamlessly integrating this with in-camera footage. This work supported the translation of Alice’s early vision into a visual proof of concept, supporting the continued development of the script and additional scenes.
Alice Nelson is an award-winning documentary filmmaker (BAFTA Scotland winner, Slamdance Best Short Documentary, Documentary Fortnight MoMA).
CASTLE OF LIGHT
EDINBURGH CASTLE
Production Services
Big Squid was proud to be involved in the production of Edinburgh's Castle of Light Christmas light show at Edinburgh Castle in 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024.
Big Squid provided production services for Creative Director Andy McGregor of Andy McGregor Design + Media, who partnered with Historic Environment Scotland and War Productions as well as others in creating this stunning spectacle for families at Christmas.
The show features over 11 site-specific projection installations, each telling a story woven into the castle’s rich history, combining animation, live action, projection mapping, and audience interaction. Big Squid supported the filming of Rex Rampant, the heraldic talking lion, and coordinated over 70 dancers for a dynamic dance scene projected across the Crown Palace walls. Drawing on a network of live performance artists, Big Squid was able to bring in talented artists to complement the show with fire, pixel poi, and glowing hoop acts. The event ran for 23 nights over Christmas, attracting around 34,000 visitors, and created a memorable, story-driven cultural experience for the city.

TIGERLILY CHRISTMAS PROJECTIONS
Production Services
Pre Squid projects included providing production and creative support to Creative Director Andy McGregor, for the Tigerlily projections in 2017 and 2018.
The Tigerlily projections were an annual festive installation and part of Edinburgh’s Christmas, which ran over the Christmas season for four consecutive years on the façade of the boutique Tigerlily Hotel and Bar on George Street.
Tracy’s role focused on supporting live-action shoots used in the projections, including aerial filming, and contributing to post-production work in After Effects on selected elements of the content. She worked closely with the creative director Andy McGregor to ensure footage was delivered accurately for architectural projection mapping, providing reliable and precise production support throughout the process.
This work demonstrates Big Squid’s ability to bring technical expertise and creative problem-solving to high-profile, site-specific projects, supporting a visually striking installation enjoyed by audiences during Edinburgh’s festive season.
